Awards Gala “Rural Business ACT: Actions of corporate social responsibility in rural areas”. Edition I

The Institute for Rural Initiatives organized a first of its kind event, Award Gala “Rural Business ACT: Actions of corporate social responsibility in rural areas”. The overall purpose of the event was recognizing the efforts of small entrepreneurs from rural areas of the country to undertake specific civic responsibility actions with a tangible impact on the community.

“When you get together to address a community issue, you assure the sustainable development of a community,” stated Ruslan Stanga, Director, Institute for Rural Initiatives.

“Just by working together entrepreneurs and the community can discover new viable instruments and establish partnership aimed at developing rural Moldova,” said Octavii Ivanov, the expert from Congress of Local Public Authorities of Moldova (CALM).

The event was attended by 17 rural entrepreneurs who were pleasantly impressed and amazed by

“Thank you very much for your appreciation. With small steps, we will manage to achieve big things,” said Ms. Aliona Francov, a business lady from Huluboaia village, Cahul rayon.

“I left the village many years ago, but I continue to offer my support to Chetrosu community, and this Award Gala motivates me to get involved even more. It was an unexpected but a precious prize. I did not know that there are such initiatives in Moldova. Thank you!” mentioned Mr. Grigorii Dilan, chairman of an airline company, Chisinau.

The event, as well as the awarding ceremony, was moderated by Mr. Andrei Porubin, the host of the TV show Veranda on Jurnal TV. The event was also welcomed by honorable guests: Ms. Teresa Snyder, President of the Great Lakes Consortium, USA, and Mr. Peter Gurgurov, Interim Managing Director, The Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises Sector Development (ODIMM).

In the last two years (2016-2018), initiative groups coming from 22 communities involved in the implementation of the Minority Empowerment in Moldova managed to involve in local initiatives around 38 small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, who contributed with over 181,910 lei/MDL while addressing community issues.

This event is implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives with the support of the U.S. State Department, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. Managed by Great Lakes Consortium at WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc.
