On May 31, 2012 the Institute for Rural Initiatives along with local partners awarded the winners of the Merit Scholarship Program “Best student of the school” award for the 2011 2012 school year.
Four children in total between the ages of 14 and 16 from the villages of Zirnesti and Alexanderfeld in the county of Cahul were awarded merit diplomas and prizes for extraordinary academic success and active extracurricular participation, these being the deciding factors for receiving this scholarship.
The Institute launched the first Merit Scholarships Program “Best student of the school” in the spring of 2011. The most important part of the program comes from motivating students from vulnerable or disadvantaged communities to raise their academic performance and community activism. The Merit Scholarship Program was welcomed and supported by the local Ministry of Education in Cahul, the administrators and parents of students, with this scholarship being interpreted as a need to improve academic and extracurricular participation of students especially in disadvantaged communities.
The Institute for Rural Initiatives will support the Merit Scholarship Program “Best student of the school” launched in the two communities, Zirnesti and Alexanderfeld, located in the south of the Republic of Moldova in Cahul county for a period of three years.
The members of the IRI team congratulate the winners of 2011-2012 scholarship and encourage the students to make efforts to better their studies and extracurricular activities for the 2013-2014 school year.
