Press Release

On November 30, 2012 the Institute for Rural Initiatives organized the second meeting of a series of trainings in Chisinau. The trainings under the theme “Capacity building for pro-Roma activists” develop leadership skills for community activists.

The second training began with a presentation of homework assignments in a free atmosphere that were given at the previous training. The training continued with the next presentation of theory behind project components, specifically regarding results and activities. Over the course of the session, the participants clarified what a result is, how to determine results, what an activity is, and how to identify project activities. In order to reiterate the theories, the training organizers asked the participants to participate in a practical exercise in small groups, determining results and activities of one of the participant’s projects, being free to choose the focus of the project.

At the end of the activity, participants formed a clearer and more realistic view of how to identify and analyze problems in the community as practiced in this second training.

The next skill developing session for Pro-Roma activists will have a new challenge presented to the training participants. Their homework was to identify a problem in the community (one that an immediate solution is not required for) and to transform this idea into a project with clear goals, objectives, activities, and expected results.

This activity was conducted within the “Developing pro-Roma public policy in Moldova: increasing the level of understanding and skill building” project, an initiative implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives with the support of the Open Society Institute, Budapest.
