The Institute for Rural Initiatives informs that from January 31 through February 2, 2013 it has successfully organized a three day training course on growing civic participation among a number of Roma leaders in Moldova. The training mobilized 17 activists from more regions of the country such as Comrat, Hincesti, Drochia and Soroca (villages of Parcani, Chetrosu, Gribova and Carpineni).
The aim of the training was to capacitate local Roma initiative groups to better participate in their communities by forging local partnership and by growing computer litracy among Roma local activists.
This was for the first time when Roma activists had the chance to learn in a formal setting how to use a computer and its basis applications (such as work in Word and Powerpoint). In a special module participants learnt how to create and use an email address.
The participants mentioned that they found the training very useful and higly motivating for them in their future work, especially now when in Moldova Roma community mediators are about to be institutionalized by the state authorities.
This activity was implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America in the Republic of Moldova as part of the “Growing Roma inclusion in Moldova: building capacity and facilitating Roma equal participation” project.
