On March 2, 2013 the Institute for Rural Initiatives organized in Cahul a new event “Training on methodologies in facilitating quality education, action planning, implementation methods, basic indicators in monitoring and reporting”. This event is a part of the project “Education Plus: supporting and advancing the inclusion of Roma kids in one school of Moldova”. The project is implemented in the High School “Ion Creanga”, village of Zirnesti, Cahul rayon, with the financial support of Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) in Moldova. At the training participated 18 teachers from “Ion Creanga” school who are currently involved in this project as homework facilitators.
The purpose of this training was to enhance the knowledge on inclusive quality education and also to agree on the general concept of making the homework facilitation process in this project more efficient.
As comparative basis there have been proposed elements of previous experience in a similar project conducted last year. In this sense, Ms. Tatiana Costev, Executive Director of the Institute for Rural Initiatives, presented briefly the main achievements and challenges from past experiences.
Expert trainer Mr. Nicolae Dandis presented skillfully a number of methods and practices of inclusion of young people in Moldovan institutions. He also emphasized the role of sharing successful stories of social inclusion in education.
In the working group participants convened on key indicators of progress in the project such as improved overall academic average, reduced absenteeism and drop out, increased extracurricular participation, and parental involvement in students’ academic process.
The participants said that although positive results in including Roma children in Zirnesti school were felt immediately after beginning the intervention, it is necessary to continue this type of intervention in the next years so that the impact is sustainable, not just cosmetic.
