Improving cooperation with parents as a key for a succesful initiative on growing quality education for Roma children

On March 14, 2013 in “Ion Creanga” school, village of Zirnesti, Cahul rayon, the Institute for Rural Initiatives organized a meeting with the parents whose kids benefit of the iRi voucher program within “Education Plus” project. At the event participated about 15 parents, the Institute and the school administration.

The meeting aimed at collecting the first impressions on the recently started homework facilitation process and discuss the impact the project had so far on the 23 beneficiary kids. The meeting also stressed on the need to consolidate the cooperation between school administration and parents while creating conditions for parents’ more active participation in the homework facilitation process of their kids as well as in the decision making processes of the school.

Tatiana Costev, Executive Director iRi, presented first, in detail, the whole facilitation process and explained the idea of voucher system in the project and asnwered questions. Later on, in the discussion panel the parents had a chance to express their thoughts about the project and vouher program. The parents said that the project is extremely welcome in their community and that it offers their kids a chance for a better education. Some parents mentioned that despite the fact that the project has recently started the results did not wait long to come. In terms of academic performance the beneficiary kids has improoved and more importantly kids feel more motivated and with a better attitude towards the didactic process.

This activity was organized by the Institute for Rural Initiatives with the support of Liechtenstein Development Service Foundation (LED, Republic of Moldova).
