On June 10, 2010 the Institute for Rural Initiatives successfully organized a social theater presentation entitled “Treat the people around you the way you want people to treat you”.
The event was organized in partnership with the Cahul Rayonal Counsel’s Department of Culture and Republican Theater B.P. Hasdeu based in Cahul and with the financial support of the Norwegian Embassy in Moldova based in Bucharest. This event was as one of many activities held within the project “Exploring democracy: building intercultural skills”. The play was based on “The Adventures of Little Red Riding Hood” and was adapted by Sandu Turcanu.
Following the play, a special interactive session entitled “Face to face with the actors” was organized. A group of youth who have finalized the complex course “Democracy School” in Zirnesti community, together with a group of professional actors, simulated a talk-show in which they discussed the message of the play and also a number of issues related to the actors’ work challenges and their daily life experiences.
This activity was focused on raising awareness through social theater among youth and school students about a number of democratic practices and approaches while developing positive attitudes on the issue of inter-ethnic cooperation and friendly dialogue with people of different ethnic backgrounds. The event was attended by about 60-70 youth, school students and teachers, and also a number of local NGO representatives.
