The Institute for Rural Initiatives announces: Democracy Schools are a success

The Institute for Rural Initiatives announces the successful implementation of the community mobilization project “Community Participation 2012-2013: Learning how to be active in our community” with the three established Democracy Schools administered by the organization.

Around 50 children from 3 districts (Zirnesti, Cahul; Minjir, Hincesti; Gribova, Drochia) were taught in Democracy School sessions during the 2012-2013 school year where they developed the spirit of initiative, participation and community mobilization skills.

Democracy Schools offered pupils space for recreation and communication. Conducting the workshops in an interactive manner with a relaxed atmosphere helps the children participate freely, as shown by the consistent presence of pupils in the activities. During the summer, graduates from Democracy Schools will attend a short summer camp. Democracy School will resume activities starting in October 2013.

Democracy School is a part of the Social Inclusion Program 2012-2013, accomplished by the Institute for Rural Initiatives in partnership with “Opre o Ciacimos” NGO from Hincesti, community leader Angela Radita from Gribova in Drochia district, with the generous support from local partners and the Global Fund for Children, USA, Washington, D.C. and Foundation of the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) in Moldova.
