School of Democracy: children – agents of changes within communities

Around 60 pupils members of clubs „School of Democracy” became active promoters for changes and involvement in solving of some problems within their community.

In the period between 28th of April – 8th of May, 2014 children from 3 participating schools in Social Inclusion program together with their community got actively involved in solving some local level issues.

Thus, in Zirnesti village, Cahul children have chosen to plant flowers in the Theoretical Lyceum „Ion Creanga”, in Mingir, Hincesti were planted roses at the local memorial site. Children from Gribova Gymnasium, Drochia decided to paint their sport play ground.

The aim of these activities is to consolidate an active spirit and a higher level of responsibility regarding the problems affecting the communities where they are from. The program proposes the integration of disadvantaged children and promotes the idea of social inclusion and harmonious coexistence, non-discrimination, tolerance and acceptance.

In the frame of this program „a special consideration is given for the development of viable instruments in order to ignite children with message of acceptance and respect to the ethnic diversity within society of Republic of Moldova”, said Tatiana Costev, Executive Director iRi.

„School of Democracy” clubs are part of the Social Inclusion program for 2013-2014 implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives and its local partners and involves children from 3 communities in the country (South, Center, North). The program in realized with support from Global Fund for Children, Washington, D.C., and Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) in Moldova.
