For the period of July 2014 the IRI team has visited 15 communities from 7 regions in north, centre and south of Moldova (rayons of Drochia, Riscani, Edinet, Hincesti, Taraclia, Cahul, and TAU Gagauzia) aiming at creating local initiative groups in selected comunities.
As a result of these visits, meetings with local public authorities, groups of active citizens and interested people, was succeded to create core groups that, further on, will generate community participatory processes. Thus approx. 100 people, representatives of minority gropus bulgarian, czech, gagauzian, roma and ukrainian will make their first steps towards empowerment of ethnic communities in Moldova.
The project aims at strengthening the capacity of minorities in Moldova to advocate for and improve their social, economic and political conditions on local and national level. The project will run for about 20 months and will be implemented at the local level in different regions of Moldova while mobilizing and empowering local communities to act as democracy promoters.
