The Institute for Rural Initiatives NGO successfully finalized this project with the support of OSI Budapest and in partnership with the Roma NGO Opre o Ciacimos from Minjir, Hincesti, Moldova.
As a result of this project two initiatives were created in two locations of Moldova (Zirnesti, Cahul and Minjir, Hincesti) that were meant to stimulate and develop a series of creative processes that will raise awareness locally and regionally about Roma realities while combating negative perceptions and pejorative labels about Roma. Also, with the support of local authorities and Peace Corps volunteers from Cahul, a number of informal activities have been organized with Roma children and youth from Zirnesti and Colibasi communities with the purpose to encourage and motivate those children to manifest themselves through different creative processes. The beneficiary children were familiarized with such notions as cultural identity and civic responsibility and benefited from free classes in drawing, painting, collage etc.
The childrens’ art was presented in a large cultural exhibition, which was organized in the Public Exhibition Hall of Cahul on the occasion of April 8, Roma International Day.
