Developing Roma public policies in Moldova: growing understanding and building capacity

The project will continue the efforts of the previous “Initiative for Participation” launched by the Institute for Rural Initiatives with the support of Roma Initiatives Office/OSI Budapest of growing participation and inclusion of Roma people in Moldovan society. The project focuses primordially on building understanding and capacity and advocacy among grassroots Roma organizations and public authorities about the role, importance and impact of public policies and growing capacity of those institutions and/or individuals to better plan, design, implement, monitor and report on any processes of Roma public policy cycles.

Immediately with the start of the project the Institute started preparing for the launch of a new initiative on developing Roma policies in Moldova “Forum for Roma Policies”, which will serve as core consultative/participatory framework in the process of Roma policy review and amendment.

A number of new partnerships with a number of local as well as central authorities will be developed. All interested entities in improving the existent Roma policies/approaches in Moldova so that Roma are more participative and included are invited to participate.

The Institute for Rural Initiatives will also lobby towards Moldova’s joint to the Roma Decade.

The “Developing Roma public policies in Moldova: growing understanding and building capacity” project is implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives in cooperation with a number of partners and with the support of Open Society Institute, Budapest.
