The project implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives with the support of Liechtenstein Development Service Foundation (LED, Moldova) intends to continue its efforts on growing social inclusion among communities populated by Roma people in the Republic of Moldova.
The aim of the project is to facilitate formal and non-formal educational processes in the selected community so that Roma kids are more integrated in the local school. The project will focus on diminishing the educational gap between Roma and non-Roma kids, the rate of absenteeism and drop-out while motivating Roma and non-Roma kids to friendly interaction and Roma parents and school teachers to more dialog and trust. This new initiative will be developed in the village of Zirnesti, particularly in the local school “Ion Creanga”.
The assistance in the project will consist of offering education vouchers to the disadvantaged kids (with a focus on those of Roma origin). The education vouchers will represent an equivalent for the school supplies needed for a most quality educational process in the school. Also about 20 kids will benefit of well-structured qualitative homework facilitation sessions as well as of food-vouchers which will be used at the school’s cantina.
Education vouchers in the project: what do they look like?
The project will simultaneously build capacities and enable a range of different local and regional actors (Roma parents, local authorities, teachers and school administration) to better understand and better cope with the educational challenges in the community.
