Improving premises of vulnerable kids and their families for a better education

Improving premises of vulnerable kids and their families for a better education

In the Republic of Moldova families with many kids are in an extremely vulnerable situation. Due to the fact the Moldovan economy continues to be very unstable (in 2016 Moldova is still the poorest country in Europe). The crisis in Moldova’s financial sector is far from being over this affecting in a chain reaction the welfare of many families.

The weak child protection system in Moldova makes the problem inflate. Many families thus become extremely vulnerable at poverty shocks especially during winter time.

Lacking resources for covering costs related to basic needs, such as heating, caloric food, clothes, hygienic supplies, medications. Those families are also unlikely to create conditions for a good education for their kids. In this sense many kids are doomed to inherit their parents’ sad destiny.

The Institute for Rural Initiatives response to this situation

In respect to the described problems IRI with the support of Bulgarian Orphans’ Fund and its local partners within “Improving premises of vulnerable kids and their families for a better education” project undertakes the following action.

  1. In partnership with local state authorities the Institute for Rural Initiatives offers relevant assistance to a number of families for alleviating the immediate impact of poverty shocks.
  2. Focuses at removing obstacles to a quality education for the kids of the beneficiary families (food, clothes, hygienic supplies, full educational supplies, if needed other basic needs such as costs for food at the school cantina, some of family heating expenses etc.).
  3. Offers opportunities for poor people to value their entrepreneurial skills while building a model micro-finance of self-sufficiency businesses.

The Institute for Rural Initiatives uses the project infrastructure for growing more awareness about the need to empower families with many kids, so that they become stronger and more self-sufficient.
