ORIS II – Institutional Support

ORIS II – Institutional Support

This project was implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives with the financial support of Open Society Institute, RPP, Budapest. The main purpose of the project was to prepare the field for developing a number of practical actions meant to increase public participation of members of disadvantaged Roma communities so that in the near future efficient and participative public policies for Roma can be elaborated and implemented.

Within this project the Institute for Rural Initiatives NGO published a guide entitled “Ce este participarea” (What Is Participation?) which aims at facilitating understanding and for promoting participation. This material has been distributed to local Roma representatives in all beneficiary communities of the project, including about 30 NGOs and other state and international organizations.

Also, a number of formal and informal activities (trainings, action research sessions, and other meetings) have been organized with representatives of Roma communities from the Central and Southern regions of Moldova, all meant to develop a sense of understanding around the issues of participation in society and also motivate Roma representatives to be more active in local communities and to trust the existent public institutions.
