iRi team visited the town of Otaci

Another partner community visited by the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) was the town of Otaci from Ocnita district.

iRi team was nicely welcomed by the youth local initiative group, teachers and parents. The meeting took place on March 15, 2019, at the Theoretic Lyceum “Mihai Eminescu” from Otaci, in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. iRi team challenged the youth to share one important thing they wanted in their community, but did not have. From the many answers we received, the majority of them wished a center for young people where they could meet to socialize, exchange ideas and experiences.

At the moment, the school is the only place in town where the youth meet for doing different activities and socialize. The youth initiative group from Otaci knows that if they want to develop a spirit of activism and participation in the community while their ideas to be supported by the adults and the LPA, they should be informed very well, bring arguments, and get involved in the activities people with various backgrounds.

Curiously to know how the young people from Otaci see themselves in 20 years and what they would do, we challenged them in a practical exercise. The answers were interesting:

“In 20 years we will be more active and independent, we will have more experience and we will be stronger and more receptive.”

“They will be more intelligent, more active in the society, more human, but also very attached to the new technologies.”

“We want and we like to be closer to young people. They really inspire us,” mentioned Elena Turcan, program coordinator iRi.

This activity is part of the “Sustainable Community Partnerships to Support the Rights of Persons Belonging to Minorities in Republic of Moldova” project, implemented by Terre des Hommes Moldova (Tdh) in partnership with the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) with the financial support of the European Union and in collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research from Moldova.
