Europe Day 2020: Stronger together in solidarity for health!

The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova together with the Embassies of the EU Member States accredited in the Republic of Moldova and the Embassies of the Eastern Partnership countries are organising a series of educational, cultural and interactive events on the occasion of Europe Day during the month of May. For the first time, Europe Day will be marked in the Republic of Moldova for one month on TV, radio and online.

This year, Europe Day will take place online, with an agenda full of creative activities for the people in Moldova. Thanks to this initiative, the European Union is staying close to the citizens of this country, bringing home a series of online events to mark European values, despite this challenging time.

The programme will include online events for everyone, including educational activities for children, young people and other people, which aim to inform about the cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, as well as to give Moldovans the opportunity to enjoy various creative events throughout the whole month of May.

The agenda of Europe Day events kicks off on the 5th of May on TV and radio, followed by a series of cultural and educational events online.

On the 9th of May, when the European Union marks the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, we have prepared an exceptional concert for the public, performed by the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra and La La Play Voices, with the participation of 200 musicians from Moldova and the European Union. The traditional Festival of European Film and Culture is also on again this year and will take place on TV and online from 10-17 May. During the Festival, the Moldovan people will have access to original art films and documentaries, as well as concerts by renowned musicians from all over Europe.

“Europe Day marks the values which were at the basis of the formation of the European Union and which, for 70 years since the Schuman Declaration, have governed the Member States through solidarity and unity. These values allow us to live together, to become even stronger and more united, despite differences of language, culture, religion and customs. Solidarity is the pillar on which the functioning of the European Union is based, and it is applied in particular in the relationship with the Republic of Moldova. I think that the Coronavirus pandemic has demonstrated more than ever that it is only through solidarity that we can face any challenge and become even stronger,” Peter Michalko says, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

Seventy years after the Schuman Declaration was signed, Europe inspires us more than ever to show responsible and innovative solidarity.
