Intercommunity action groups (MIT) support friends from Ukraine

The Institute for Rural Initiatives supports children and adolescents from rural areas from Ukraine and Moldova in the framework of the project named “Community Partnerships in Support of Friends from Ukraine”. The 5 regional MIT groups formed, together with the iRi team, provide assistance to refugee and non-refugee children and parents in need.

Together with the Local Public Administration they are looking for good solutions to integrate refugees and non-refugees from 10 communities of the Republic of Moldova in the districts of Drochia, Edinet, Cahul, Ceadir-Lunga and Chisinau municipality.

The MIT groups have already involved not only the LPAs in this process, but also the Social Assistance Department, the Education Department, NGOs, schools and other available local resources that can possibly contribute to improving the quality of life of people in difficult situations.

“The MIT group together with the Mayor helped us to solve the problem of limited access to school by applying to Drochia District Department of Education.” – Egor’s mother, a refugee.

MIT groups have set up 10 Friends’ Clubs where recreational activities, personal development and counselling for children and their parents are organized. So far, there have been organized 31 activities for 200 people, 73% of which are from Ukraine and 27% from Moldova.

This effort is part of the project “Community Partnerships in Support of Friends from Ukraine”, implemented within 6 months by the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) in the partnership with APSCF and contributions of Global Fund for Children, under the grant program of the project named “Support for Refugees under the APSCF umbrella”, funded by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe.
