ReThink Rural Moldova project

ReThink Rural Moldova project

From June 2021 to June 2022, the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi), with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America in the Republic of Moldova, will implement the project ”ReThink Rural Moldova”. The project proposes to change/bring to actuality the perception and concept about rural development in Moldova with a view to incorporate and institutionalize cooperation between LPAs and local civic groups.

The project will invite representatives of both civil society and Government and other to embrace a wider understanding of rural development, especially in respect to cooperation with civil society and local citizens while creating opportunities for local and regional communities (NGOs, professional groups, Government officials, mayor offices, district and regional development offices and a number of scholars) to interact and debate on the subject.

iRi think that promoting quality rural resilience needs to be done in a participatory way by incorporating a robust citizens’ empowerment element at all stages of the development process. Examples from EU and US will be presented.

Specifically, the project will enable via training and dialogue and evidence-based data a number of relevant stakeholders so that they become able to go beyond the current traditional narrow concept of rural development as it now in Moldova and come up with a more holistic approach to rural development policies.

The project will offer specific insights to the current situations and will present a number of recommendations to the existing policies of rural development (mostly referring to regional development and agrarian development) and will offer both space and needed expertise for such a dialogue that can change the situation.

The project will involve youth, women and ethnic minorities and will NOT duplicate any of current known projects.

Project goal

The goal of “ReThink Rural Moldova” is to change the perception and concept about rural development in Moldova so that it better serves its rural citizens.

The goal will be achieved by enabling (via training and dialogue and evidence-based data) relevant stakeholders (both civil society and government representatives) so that they become able to go beyond the current traditional narrow concept of rural development as it now in Moldova and come up with more relevant policies and practices of rural development leading to more empowered citizens and better quality of life.
