Beyond the Classroom: Extracurricular Experiences for the Future

Beyond the Classroom: Extracurricular Experiences for the Future

Project: “Beyond the Classroom: Extracurricular Experiences for the Future”

Implemented by: Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi)

Location: Gymnasium from Boghiceni, Hincesti district

Project goal: Every child in Boghiceni aged 7–14 will have the opportunity to learn in a more friendly and innovative school environment that motivates them to stay in school, continue their education, and succeed in life.

Implementation period: February 2026 – March 2027

Context: Boghiceni Gymnasium has 129 students enrolled. There is currently no functional afterschool service in the community that provides systematic educational support, structured extracurricular activities, and consistent socio-emotional assistance. The average academic performance is 6.59, which is below the national average (7.2). Some students come from vulnerable families (low income, parents working abroad, single-parent households, or other situations of educational risk).

To address these challenges, the project aims to improve academic performance and reduce school absenteeism, increase interaction among children and young people in the community of Boghiceni, and reduce harmful phenomena (such as discrimination, addictions, bullying, etc.) by creating a friendly and supportive environment that responds to their social and emotional needs. Activities will include both group and individual support and will be carried out throughout the entire project period.

The project focuses on practical solutions and tools to increase students’ motivation to learn, identify barriers to academic success, provide psycho-emotional support, strengthen intercommunity partnerships, and encourage positive peer interaction.

The project will contribute to improving the learning atmosphere in the gymnasium and strengthening partnerships within the community (children, parents, and local authorities), bringing parents and the community closer to the school and supporting the long-term inclusion of vulnerable children in the public institution within the community.

The initiative “Beyond the Classroom: Extracurricular Experiences for the Future” is implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) within the project “BOOST: A Memorable Extracurricular Experience,” financed by the European Union and implemented by Terre des hommes Moldova Foundation, in partnership with the Alliance of NGOs active in the field of Child and Family Social Protection (APSCF) and Junior Achievement Moldova.
