Support Elect: supporting local CSOs and media to monitor elections in rural Moldova

This project brings additional energy and support to 5 rural communities of Moldova (civil society organizations and local media) while assisting them to play a more active role in their communities as they promote free and fair elections, become more involved in monitoring elections and preventing electoral fraud in general.

Particularly the project will seek to grow awareness about the importance of 2025 Parliamentary Elections while strengthening transparency and accountability around the fall elections.

Project partners

Three local NGOs: “Destinatia de succes” from Cismichioi, “AO Botna” from Cirnatenii Noi, “Community Center Roscani”, from Roscani; and two independent media outlets: Ziua de Azi portal located in the city of Cahul and NordNews, in the town of Drochia.

Main activities

Project partners will receive quality training on promoting free and fair election, report irregularities as well as monitoring elections in general. The project partners will be trained to provide the larger public with clear, official and reliable information on different electoral processes before, during and after elections. The project will establish observer laboratories in each of the 5 communities to follow local election events. The project will encourage the production of reports and video stories that reflect the voices of local observers.

At the final event, project beneficiaries will present the main project results and share some of the experiences from the project.

Expected Results

The 5 project partners will gain the needed tools and experience to monitor elections and inform their communities about the electoral process (rights, obligations, potential fraud risks etc.). The project will bring more transparency, balance, and community involvement in Moldova’s election process, especially in places where local voices are rarely heard: rural Moldova. The awareness campaign developed in the project is expected to reach at least 15,000 people.

The project is implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) with the support of ERIM, through the ProElect project, funded by the European Union.
