In Gagauzia region, the process of forming up 5 Local Coalitions for Budgetary Participation has been completed

In the town of Ceadir Lunga, Gagauzia ATU, the 5th Local Coalition has been formed up, which aims to monitor the budgetary situation of the town, but also to contribute to improving the living standards of citizens.

The conference, which took place on the 29th of April 2020, was opened by the Secretary of the Coalition Mr. Oleg Fazli, the representative of Pharos NGO, with a greeting and welcome speech, presentation of the agenda and introduction of participants.

Mr. Anatol Topal, the Mayor of the town of Ceadir Lunga, also came up with a message of support for the initiative: “We hope that this project will involve as many citizens as possible not only in the budgeting process, but also in the decision-making process.”

The Mayor also mentioned that the Town Hall has the responsibility to provide a quite varied set of services, but unfortunately the local budget cannot cover them all financially.

“The money paid as taxes by the citizens residing in Ceadir Lunga does not all go to the budget of the Town Hall, we get only 40% of it, but it is very good to spend what we have together with the locals,” Mr. Anatol Topal said, the Mayor of Ceadir Lunga town.

The event was facilitated by Tatiana Costev, Programme Director, Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) and Iulian Rusu, Deputy Executive Director, Institute for European Policies and Reforms.

“The distribution of funds by categories in the budget – an interesting process that I invite you to pay attention to when you access the Budgetulmeu.md website,” Tatiana Costev said, the Programme Director, iRi.

The official part of the conference was when the decision to form up the group was voted for and the Regulation of the Local Coalition Activity was approved.

The activity was organised by the partner organisation, the Institute for Rural Initiatives.
