Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) signed memorandums of cooperation with 5 town halls in Gagauzia region

During May this year, five partner town halls in Gagauzia region signed memoranda of cooperation within the project “Inform, empower and act! Civil society for better budget governance in Moldova”.

The memoranda were signed for 2 years and provide for mutual support to increase the participation of citizens and civil society representatives in the budgetary process in the communities of Baurci village, Gaidar village, Tomai village, town of Ceadir-Lunga and town of Vulcanesti.

“We have been building a partnership relationship with the local public administrations in five communities of Gagauzia ATU for several years. These memoranda are a logical and necessary continuation of our aim to raise the level of citizen participation in the budget process,” Ruslan Stanga said, the Executive Director, Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi).

The partnership with these 5 LPAs implies a set of complex actions that will lead to the following results:

  • conducting analyses of gaps or opportunities for citizens to get involved in the budget process and assessing the level of participation in the local budget process;
  • development and approval of activity plans of these 5 LPAs to increase participation in the local budget process;
  • developing a community-relevant form of participatory budgeting;
  • placing on the website information and materials on the local budget, including independent budget analysis, local budget for citizens, public procurement monitoring report;
  • organising events where citizens can participate in the local budget process.

The project “Inform, Empower and Act! Civil society for better budget governance in Moldova” is implemented by the Independent Analytical Centre “Expert-Grup”, as the lead partner, together with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung e.V. (KAS, Germany), the Centre for East European Studies (CSEE, Lithuania) and the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE).

The implementation partner in the Gagauzia ATU region within this project is the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi).
