An individual style for Joltai

Despite the difficult pandemic conditions, the initiative group of Joltai, ATU Gagauzia, created a close collaboration with the local public authority and the community, in order to make the village more attractive for tourists.

At the moment, the initiative group has renovated two wells. There were carried out several works: land cleaning, mud evacuation, the community outdoor pavilion was renovated and benches were installed. Obviously, such work requires a lot of resources. Thus, the LPA contributed with 26,800 MDL in this initiative.

The community was also actively involved with transportation, tools, physical labor, coffee breaks.

“Such activities strengthen the community, contribute to the development of communication at another level. Spending more time together shows the wish to participate in solving community problems, without waiting for someone else to come and do it for us.” – Petru Marcov, leader of the initiative group.

The residents are encouraged by the results and want to continue the restoration of the rest of public wells, as well as of springs.

“We are pleased to cooperate with the initiative group and are very open to discuss new proposals for improving the standard of living in Joltai.” – Ilia Cosulinschi, mayor of Joltai.

These results show not only an active involvement in the community life, supported by the LPA, but also prove that when there is a big wish to participate, the difficult conditions are not an obstacle.

The community initiative from Joltai, Comrat district is part of the “Minority Empowerment in Moldova – MEM PLUS” program, implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi), in partnership with Great Lakes Community Action Partnership, with the financial support of the U.S. Department of State.
