On the occasion of April 8 – Roma International Day, USA ambassador in Moldova Asif Chaudhry met at his residence-house with four Roma leaders from Moldova (including Ruslan Stanga, the director of the Institute for Rural Initiatives) for in informal discussion over the Roma issues in Moldova.
At this meeting Roma representatives from different regions of Moldova (Cahul, Chisinau, and Soroca) presented the general situation of Moldovan Roma informing the ambassador about Roma main challenges, problems, and current accomplishments on the national and local level.
Mr. Chaudhry saluted the work realized by pro-Roma NGOs in respect to Roma human rights in Moldova and expressed openness and willingness and support Roma issues in Moldova and especially the efforts on building a democratic society based on such values as equal opportunity, tolerance, acceptance and harmonious interethnic dialogue.
Roma representatives appreciated this meeting as being extremely important and perspective in the process of supporting the common effort on combating any form of discrimination and intolerance in the Republic of Moldova.
