The Institute for Rural Initiatives advices pupils to stay rooted in education and harvest the rewards at graduation

Following the tradition at the end of the school year, for the 5th year in a row, the Institute for Rural Initiatives and its local partners within the Award Program “The Best Student in School” and “The Most Active Student in School” implemented with the generous support of Global Found for Children, Washington, D.C. has awarded the best and the most active pupils from five Moldovan schools (“Mingir” Lyceum, Mingir village, Hincesti rayon; “Gribova: Gymnasium, Gribova village, Drochia rayon; “Serghei Esenin” Gymnasium , Alexanderfeld village, Cahul rayon; “Ion Creanga” Lyceum, Zirnesti village, Cahul rayon and “Mihai Eminescu” Lyceum, Hincesti town). Award Program is being implemented in five communities in North, South and Central Moldova.

The purpose of this innovative educational program is to stimulate motivation for studying and healthy academic competition in disadvantaged rural communities while raising academic performance levels and extra-curricular activism at the student level. For more information, please visit this link.

The initial program was launched in two communities in the south of Moldova and over the past 5 years it has been expanded in 4 other schools in different districts.

At the graduation ceremony “Last Bell” the iRi team handed out 10 Excellence Awards, prizes “Best Student in the school” valued at 1,000 MDL, and “The most active student in the school” valued at 400 MDL. All nine facilitators of Democracy School have also received Diplomas of Excellence for moderating the workshops, thereby contributing directly to the promotion of the inclusive education.

Pupils, winners of the awards, happy and impressed expressed their gratitude to the entire iRi team and advised their peers to study diligently and actively participate in the extra-curricular activities as well.

“Thank you so much for this award! For the first time in my life, I have received such a valuable prize! Words can’t describe how happy I am today! With the money I have got I will buy more books to gain even more knowledge,” said Ana Caldararu, the winner of Award Program “The most active student in the school” from Mingir village, Hincesti rayon.

Through the Award Program the Institute for Rural Initiatives aims to inspire other educational institutions as well in order to promote the concept of quality education through healthy academic competition and active extra-curricular participation.
