Citizens ACT: Improving participatory governance and transparency

About the project: The Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) through People in Need Moldova (PIN) with the financial support of the European Union is implementing the project “Citizens ACT: Improving participatory governance and transparency”.

The aim of the project is to enhance trust and cooperation between local public administrations and local civil society in 5 rural areas of the Republic of Moldova, as well as to improve civil society involvement in participatory budgeting processes at local level.

The project activities provide learning opportunities on good practices in local governance facilitating interaction between citizens, institutions and experts in community mobilization. Tools to improve relations between LPAs and civic groups will be implemented, with a particular focus on budget transparency.

The project also targets to catalyze systemic reforms through the example of the 5 communities and to promote open budgeting practices across Moldova, while also involving local and central authorities interested in co-participating in this democratic exercise.
