Citizens serving citizens

Citizens serving citizens

The scope of the project “Citizens serving citizens” is to empower civic engagement and develop civil society organizations at local level in the Republic of Moldova.

The project is a continuation of the project Governing together and its main objective is to build the capacities of 6 local NGOs (3 from Drochia district and 3 from Rascani district) to advance the process of governing in the 2 target districts.

In the Institute of Rural Initiatives (iRi)’ vision, the local NGOs have a key role in the process of empowering public institutions in order to improve the act of good governance at level of LPA I and LPA II.

“Strong local NGOs mean an increased level of organization and involvement of civil society in the process of monitoring and consulting the decisions of local elected officials. Strong NGOs mean capacity NGOs. In Moldova at this time good governance at the local level is not possible without active and systematic participation of local NGOs, and these local NGOs need help.” – Elena Turcan, project coordinator, iRi.

The project “Citizens serving citizens” is iRi’s response to the precarious situation on administration and good governance in rural areas of Moldova by presenting to 6 rural communities the European models of civic involvement, models that require a permanent interaction between LPA and citizens, inter-community dialogue and partnership for citizens’ interests.

The project “Citizens serving citizens” is implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives (iRi) and local partners within the Grant Program ’’Grassroots Civil Society Development Facility in the Republic of Moldova”, funded by the European Union and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
